Day 248

Natalie has a cold, thus the rosy cheeks and extra drool. And she's changed her mind about sleeping through the night.

Day 247: Spooky Nat

Megan took this photo and spookified it with some kind of photo app.

Excuses, Excuses

Or: why we haven't posted in almost three months.
  1. We moved: out of a house, out of a condo, out of my mom's house, out of a warehouse, into a house.
  2. The heat. It was really hot this summer. We got kind of depressed about that.
  3. Our computer was homeless for a while. It lived in a box.
  4. Lack of sleep.
  5. Not enough shut-eye.
  6. And finally: an extremely wakeful baby whose frequent night-time feasts left me unmotivated, unproductive, and eventually distraught.
It's no coincidence that I'm updating this blog only after Natalie has, against her wishes and not according to her baby plans, started sleeping through the night (sort of, most nights). This involved the reading, by me, of a book called Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems, the same book I read and put into practice when Megan was eight months old.

So yeah, I bought that book twice. But it worked. At least, mostly. (I just now had to go in and pat her little bottom back to sleep, same as I did last night. Clearly, I need to reread some chapters.)

Day 244: Eight months (plus one day) old

Natalie has been doing this crazy backstroke-splashing thing each night in the tub. She gets really serious about it. See for yourself.

Postscript: Today, another baby would have turned 15. Hard to believe.

Day 230

Seems like every photo used to look like this: Nat, sleeping. Now, not so much.

Day 213: Seven months old

She can pick up a Cheerio. She can scoot on her belly, too. And sit up pretty well. And maybe it's an accident, but she sometimes says Mama when she's crying.

Day 209

I forgot to mention the kitten. Somewhere in here, very soon after we moved in, Aaron brought Megan the kitten. She named him Ollie. He's kind of a spaz, but we think he'll fit in nicely. In the mornings, Aaron wads up a page of the newspaper and throws it across the room; Ollie fetches, then brings the paper ball back -- to Natalie, of all people. We have to keep an eye on those two.

Speaking of cats, this one apparently came with our house. She is declawed and seems desperate for a good indoor home. Any takers? (Our local animal shelter's cat section is currently full.)

Adopt me.

Day 175

Here we are at FedEx/Kinko's after closing (so we thought) on our new house. Turned out, our lender still needed just one more eensy-weensy copy of some-odd statement, he informed us quietly on the way out the door. But all turned out well. We got our house. We moved. We are thankful.

Day 171: Road Trip

We drove to Burnet to pick up Megan from camp. As evident in the photos, Natalie got a warm welcome from Megan's cabinmates, but she did not enjoy the ride home.
